IN COLLABORATION WITH HEAL REWILDING

At OCED we understand that mental health does not exist in isolation but is deeply influenced by our environment and our connection to the natural world. That is why we are pleased to announce our collaboration with Heal Rewilding - a UK charity working to restore native ecosystems and rewild land for nature and people. The UK is currently ranked in the bottom 10% globally for biodiversity. Heal aims to restore and rewild a plot of land in every English county by 2050, together covering almost 25,000 acres.

Why Nature Matters to Mental Health

“We are not apart from nature; we are a part of it.”

Research and lived experience increasingly show that being in nature supports emotional and psychological healing. Whether it’s walking through a woodland, hearing birdsong, or feeling the ground beneath our feet, natural environments regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, improve mood, and foster mindfulness. This principle guides our collaboration with Heal - a shared belief that healing ourselves and healing the Earth are deeply interconnected. Nature offers powerful tools for recovery. It teaches presence, patience, and connection - all vital components of good mental and physical wellbeing.

Just as individuals need time and support to recover, so too does our natural environment.

A Shared Mission: Restoration and Recovery

Heal Rewilding aligns with OCED’s values of sustainability, compassion, and long-term recovery. Like mental health, ecological health is in crisis. Biodiversity loss, climate change, and habitat destruction threaten not only wildlife but also human wellbeing. These issues affect our sense of safety, belonging, and hope for the future.

 By supporting rewilding, we are:

 ·      Helping to restore ecosystems and biodiversity.

·       Promoting a deeper connection with nature, to support mental and physical wellbeing.

 ·      Recognising the impact of climate-related anxiety on mental wellbeing.

·       Investing in a healthier future for ourselves and generations to come.
